I just put a new computer online but cannot get any internet connection- tried repair - etc - keeps saying acquiring ip address - and ip reads as o.o.o.o
Thought it might be a dead ethernet connection so installed Usb ethernet adapter - and same problem - keeps saying acquiring ip address:confused:

First of all, i'm no expert. When my wife set up internet, she went into the bios and sometimes had to put in a Mac address.
Then she put the mobo drivers on for networking.
I'm sure she the put all the IP adresses in manually and always got it to work.

At work i told a comp to find the IP address automatically and it worked for me that time.

Don't know if it is of any help, but with my limited knowledge, it's the best i can do.

    Jon

Thank you for the replies but I have become so stressed out and dissatisfied with XP that I installed Ubuntu and it easily goes online now. I thought I knew XP pretty well - been maintaining 2 systems that work perfectly have fixed many problems but could not wrap my head around this latest Windows Xperience and went with mr Torvalds for awhile.
