Just about ready to wipe a Windows Xp Pro install that I paid too much for (computer(Dell)/ Office Pro 2003 / Games etc - I am about ready to wipe it out of existence! and totally defect to Ubuntu - How in the hell can something I paid 3000$ for a year ago be %@*& compared to Ubuntu which is free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry about this rant post but I am so bothered by this that I feel delusional:cool2:
I spent so much time setting up this machine for me- never even put it online( to paranoid and was filled with essential files) until now - where I need it - it just will not go online (different ethernet cards- Usb ethernet card Usb direct from modem - nothing works)
But the ubuntu Live Cd goes online

What a waste - what in the hell are Microsoft programmers doing all day long
Do I really need the Vista disease-:(
Why am I so emotionally attached to an OS

10:1 says it's probably something you did to the machine. I don't mean to sound like an ass with this post, but if you've tried multiple cards, and nothing works, it's probably something triggered by you during your ownership of the machine. Most problems start at the user.

But what could I have done - it has never been online was basically used as a glorified typewriter(Offfice2003) and for playing new games- even just recently did a complete re-installation and no go - yet as before Ubuntu live cd goes online instantly - so I did it:bigggrin: I am now in the process of installing Ubuntu, - I feel almost light headed:wink:
    - Just erased a 600 + investment not including all these new XP games I have collected over the last year. At least the hardware is good - P4 640 HT 3.0 GHz 2 Gb Ram 256 mb VD card 250 Gb hd.
Holly - only one machine I own is still using XP pro (yes I have way too many computers!) exclusively and one machine on dual boot with Linux.

Well I guess thus begins my real linux adventure - gonna look into some of the other distros and have some fun with this OS- instead of a stroke from frustration:cool:
Thanks for the replies - needed to spew out this post:rolleyes2

    Fedora.

    Ewww DeadRat.

On a sidenote Im glad to hear ubuntu is working well for you thelemech.

I personally use debian but ubuntu is a better user experience.
(I use debian sid ... they tend to make major changes alot ... proprietary driver seems to break as well... And HAL broke last time but since the latest update its been fine)

Did you ever have Norton Internet Security installed?

Did you perform a Winsock fix?

    Did you reinstall TCP/IP?

The winsock ip fix already does that for you.

No, it resets the TCP/IP and winsock catalog files, but it does not reinstall the protocol.
