Urgent help PLEASE

ok... so yesterday I boot up my PC, to find that windows will not load. MY PC boots, says welcome, and lovely Avril Lavigne comes up on my desktop. Fine. However the start menu will not load. THe only way I have been able to correct this is by opening task manager and ending a process called svchost. exe

There are 5 processes all called svchost.exe, however, I can only end 4 of them. Ending these 4 will bring my start menu up. I cannot connect to the internet. I am connected to the same router as the other computers in this house (which includes the one I am on now) I do not get the "this page cannot be displayed" message, it just wont do anything. It is the same with windows messenger, as soon as I click sign in it will just hang. Then, within a couple of minutes I will get an uncloseable message saying "The system will restart in one minute. This was powered by NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM" or something. And my PC will just reboot and start this process all over again.

Additional inmformation that may be of use

When I load messenger or IE, the buttons have returned to the windows 98 stlye if you know what I mean. On closing these applications as a result of them hanging, they return to the XP style.

On logging into messenger the other day, it said I was signed in on another computer (hacker?)

I need my PC for work as this one is not available for most of the day. Please, URGENT help is needed and if anyone can solve this problem for me I would be really grateful.

Thanks

Joe

    Hi Joe999,

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
    • Restart your computer
    • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
    • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
    • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
    • Choose your usual account.
    • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
    • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
    • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
    • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
    • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
    • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
    • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt in your next reply
Now, I will need to see a HijackThis log. You may need to transfer this between two computers.

Click here to download HJTsetup.exe. Save it to your Desktop!
    • Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
    • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
    • Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the "Select Addition Tasks" dialogue.
    • Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
    • Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
    • At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
    • Click on the "Do a system scan and save a log file" button. It will scan and then ask you to save the log.
    • Copy and paste the log here
DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Post the HijackThis log, along with the SDFix report.

I would run the scans outlined above. There could be some nasties about.

Also, good luck on the first day of the season. :)
