Intel has recently joined the OLPC initiative, and in this questions have been raised regarding the effect this move could have on the project's original member, AMD. No one really knows what effect this may have, but currently the project will run off a Geode AMD processor that costs a bit more than OLPC wanted. This could be a switch up AMD is not looking for.
AMD Taiwan responded in saying, "The apparent change of heart by Intel is welcome. AMD is sure they can make a positive contribution to this very worthy project for the benefit of children all over the world. As one of the founding members of the non-profit organization, AMD will remain committed to OLPC and to the goals of our 50x15 Initiative, whose mission is to enable 50 percent of the world's population with affordable, accessible Internet and computing capabilities by the year 2015."
It looks like we have until 2015 to find out what will happen with Intel jumping in the pool of OLPC.
