I have run out of hdd space, so want an extra sata controller card.

I am running an Abit AT7-MAX2, 2500+, 1gb 2700LL corsair.

Std ide's 1:PM: panasonic dvd-ram
1:PS: pioneer dvd-rom 116s
2:SM: Lite-on 52x cd-rw
2:SS: Lite-on 411s DVD-+RW

Highpoint Raid: SATA1: Maxtor 120gb raid0 (Data drive)
SATA2: Maxtor 120gb raid0 (Data drive)
IDE3: PM: WD40gb JB Raid0 (O/S Drive)
IDE4: SM: WD40gb JB Raid0 (O/S Drive)
IDE4: SS: Seagate 7200.7 Plus 120gb (Data Drive)

I have an 80gb Maxtor SATA and i would like to move the seagate off the same ch as my wd.

I got a Adaptec 1210 SATA Raid Card, but when that is in my system i can't boot off the highpoint raid at all.

So i was after any thoughts on what controller woudl be compatable with the mobo and hpt controller.

Thanks.

What exactly happens you try and boot up from the Highpoint when the controller card is installed? What boot order are you using in the BIOS?

As for SATA contollers, the PCI controller card you currently have has a native Adaptec controller chip doesn't it? I'm not really familiar with them, but it strange you're having problems getting it to work with your onboard hightpoint. However considering that board has three different onboard hard drive controllers, it's not that suprising that it would dislike a fourth being plugged in. I suggest troubleshooting the problem a bit more, before you shell out on a new card that is. Because you might find the problem more general than a specific incompatibity with your motherboard and your Adaptec SATA controller card. But getting a card with a Silicon Image controller would be my advise, if your not looking to spend too much.

**EDIT** what am I thinking? Why aren't you just burning the excess to DVD's?

    can't fit 26gb on a dvd, yet

I don't actually have a need for that drive as i put it pack into stock, so the controller is also not needed.

And i just got a cheap std ata133 controller card, and put the 120gb ata and the 80gb ata on each ch.

    Thanks.

The onboard hpt is gonna jack with most add-on sata or ide cards. Ever considered just selling te eadaptec, disabling the stupid hpt and getting one card that handles all your needs?

HPT has a 8 port sata that is even 64/66 compatible thats under $180 at newegg. You other alternative is of course 3ware.
