unable to connect XP on LAN

edited July 2007 in Science & Tech
Hi,
I recently installed Window XP in one of our PCs. All
other PCs are using window 2000 professional. When I
tried to map to the C drive of the PC with Window XP, I
entered the username and password, there is always an error, which
states "incorrect password or unknown username for:".
Any idea what is wrong?

Go to "My network places" and run the "Set up a home or small office network" utility.

same error "incorrect password or unknown username for:"

Don't know all of your specifics so hope this helps:
You have to be an admin to the XP machine to access its c$ share on another computer. If your not on a domain, I believe you need the same username with administrative rights on both computers for it to work.

Do all of the 2000 boxes have the same login username and password? I'm guessing you're not connected to a domain and are working from a workgroup.

If so, that same username and password should be on the windows XP box. Treat the username and password as case sensitive. If you have different usernames and passwords on the 2000 boxes, each one of those will need to be on the XP box.

    Hope that helps.
