Port Forwarding with Motorola VT2542 Router

I've followed all the steps in the manual, but cannot get port forwarding to work on this router. I created a new 'rule'. It's got the right protocol and port defined, but it's just not doing it. I'm getting pretty frustrated. I don't even know how to trouble shoot a problem like this beyond double and triple checking all the settings, which I've done.

Also are you forwarding UDP, TCP or Both and what is it you are trying to setup PTP, XBOX? What specific program are you trying to use because sometimes there are other things in addition to port forwarding that you need to enable.
One other setting you should check out is if your Router supports UPnP packet forwarding that's often all you need to enable on your Router.
I had this working just a couple days ago with my old router, so I know that there is nothing blocking it on the system's side. Also, when I just type in the internat IP address of the host system from one of the other systems, it allows me to connect to the game immediately. It just doesn't work from the outside withiout port forwarding.
With my old lynksys, all I had to do was enter the port, the destination, and the protocol (UDP), and it would work perfectly.
This one makes me set up a 'rule' to apply to a specific system, but it still seems pretty straight forward.
My router does have UPnP, but I've never used it before. I tried turning it on, and seeing if it helped anything, but it didn't, and I didn't see any settings for it beyond a check-box: 'Enable UPnP'.
Also, that router does have a DMZ zone you could just put the game machine's IP in. That does pretty much kill a lot of the firewall protection of the router but maybe you take care of that with a good software firewall.
Edit: It shouldn't matter, but just in case it does: My 'static IP address' is a domain name that forwards to my dynamic address (which only actually changes once every 3-5 months)
The static address in question is the one that the router is forwading to. It doesn't mater what address the router is getting from your ISP. The router has to enable port forwarding to the machine that is physically connected to it on a specific internal IP.
I have the same problem except I have a very simple set up..

I cannot get my Dmz to work at all or with use of port forwarding...
Moto's got a problem I hope this can be resolved with firmware..
I cannot find any where in the router to upgrade firmware either... hmmm
It wasn't working from within the network. When I was trying to det it up, I was testing it from the computer sitting next to it. I tried to point the computer to the IPaddress of my network, and the port I was trying to forward, and it just wouldn't do it. Finally, I got a note from one of the players reminding me to send out an e-mail that the game was back up. Apparently, he had tried to log in, just to see if it would work, and it did, even though I still couldn't get to it from inside the network.
I still don't know why it's doing that or how to fix it, but it doesn't bother me anymore, as long as my players can get to the game.
For now I just used another static ip for my server and pointed my domain at the new ip..
I just dont like it when such a good product with so many features cannot get their act straight the first time.
After a little more investigation I could do everything on the server when it was on the DMZ except for web traffic. SSH, VSFTP and MAIL worked fine just kept rerouting port 80 traffic to the login page of the router.
