PC restarts after seconds on the win logon screen

edited August 2007 in Hardware
So, last night the PC was fine. It was running a bit slow but I didnt mind. It was getting late (5am) and i couldnt be bothered turning it off through start, so i held down the power button till it turned off.
This morning i turn it on and it loads to the windows XP loading screen then restarts and i get the safe mode options, last known config, start windows norm etc.

All of them dont work, even safe mode!

I have tried the following:
- Re-inserted both my ram sticks
- used my 1gb stick only
- used my 512mb stick only
- used both
- CHKDSK, fixboot, etc
- tried botting win98 but i dont have a floppy drive =.="
- pressed DEL, went into settings and resetted them to default

i play WoW on this PC and my gamecard has a week left and I really dont want to waste time on it.

i have checked COUNTLESS forums regarding this issue and pretty much none have sold my problem or it goes off-topic.

please help.

oh, pc specs:
Acer
Radeon Xpress integrated vid card (200?)
2.4ghZ
1.5GB RAM
sorry i dont kno much about PCs but thats pretty much it.

i also unplugged speakers, printer, modems AND heater (winter here) cos maybe it was too much power, but didnt work.
I also tried a different power outlet and that didnt work either.

The 512m stick came with the PC, the 1GB i bought months ago.

System is Xp, Media Center Edition (if that matters)
I have an XP Disk, dunno if its the original - doesnt look like one.
Yes I can get into it. As I said in my post above I have tried CHKDSK, Bootfix, rebuild and all that crap.
I think I tried, but got a blue screen.

    try fixmbr
if that doesnt work try the repair installation again - you get to the ist screen where you enter the repair installation and then press enter to start a new installation of windows
this takes you to the screen where it finds the existing instrallation - click R to repair the existing installation - follow the normal setup instructions

Moral - NEVER turn off your pc from the power switch unless u have no choice - 9/10 wont matter - that 1/10 will lead to hours of frustration

I have never heard of rebuild - what does it do?
how far into the installation did you get the blue screen?

where you get to Press enter to install does it show your existing installation anywhere?
I would swap out the memory modules and retry - eg totally different ones to those you are now using
where you get to Press enter to install - do you get a choice of 'R' to repair?
It sounds to me like a total format and reinstall will be necessary - but it would be good to know what is causing the problem - I think the hard power down corrupted the windows installation - that is why i am trying to get you to see if it will repair install

OK boot to xp disc again and when u get to the first screen that says something like r for repair and enter for install press R for Repair.
Go to recovery console , choose 1, and then enter (unless you have a password) and then run fixmbr and then run chkdsk /r
    let me know what happens
