load balancing router

edited July 2007 in Science & Tech
i have a cable and dsl connection. CUrrently, i have a router as a gateway under PPPoE for the dsl, and another router using DHCP for the cable.

If i were to use a load balancing router with 2 WAN port, would the difference in PPPoE and DHCP pose a problem?

Also, could I, say, keep the gateway router for the DSL, and then run a cable from a LAN port into one of the WAN ports of the load balancing router, and still keep the combine bandwidth?

thanks for any help you guys can give me

If your load balancing router can handle multiple outbound protocols then you can mix them. Your router would handle the internal networking layer and be handing out the IP's to your machines.

You should also be able to connect it the second way and have it do the same thing, though there is no advantage in doing it that way over just plugging both modems into the load balancing router.
