Firestarter

Wondering if you have to keep Firestarter Ubuntu minimized to keep it running? The icon at the top disappears if you do not.
Also - I was Using Ubuntu/Firefox, and had a classic spyware scenario yesterday {Firefox suddenly restarts, filling only half the screen upon doing so, and there I am at YourPCisInfectedWillRunAFreeScanToMake
EverythingWorse.com) / And now my PC is churning that HD to Beat All Heck! Although user performance seems the exact same.
And now there are 154 serious attempts to penetrate my system.
I have a Windows partition on this machine. I have done some googling on some of the services and most seem to be MS? Hacking my Windows partition via my Ubuntu? - or vice-versa? I was also wandering if possibly the XP partition might be infected, and perhaps some foreign computer is sending something expecting it to access Windows? (same IP?)
On a side note this machine is in no way critical in it's current state (P2 Windows/Ubuntu experiment machine!) and there is no "emergency to fix it" - I'll just do a new install - probably give Kubuntu a whirl.
I would like to know what is going on though - and how to deal with the problem in the future!?

This is normal MS worm traffic. A Windows firewall normally doesn't even bother you with this stuff because it's everywhere. You may want to put your machine behind a NAT layer to obviate that stuff. As for your Firefox business, don't browse places that hijack your browser. You can fix it by dumping your .mozilla directory in /home/username. Unless you were running it as root, in which case you will probably want to format your hard drive.

Thanks for the replies drasnor, much appreciated! I've been running in root - going to go with the Kubuntu experiment next - besides I have been setting up Ubuntu (as I've been studying it) on my main computer.
