crazy viruses that really hurt my computer

this might go under the virus section, but i think this is more serious and needs immediate attention. also, i am not computer smart, so i really don't know all of the technicals

i have a windows vista w/ intel core duo.
i was downloading a system (stupidly) to watch a friend's video, when everything went haywire. VIRUSPROTECTPRO 3.5 popped up w/ the following:

Worm.Win32.Ultimax.a

this is listed eight (8) times listed as a file under:

C:\Program Files\Video ActiveX

no url is given, and the risk is MEdIUM
also listed are:

Adware.PWS file C:\Program Files\Video ActiveX Access\ot.ico
(URL is Adware.PWS at a MEDIUM risk)(this appears listed twice (2)

Win32.TrojanClick.Spywad.b file C:\Windows\system32\vjxwnn.dll
(URL is unknown at a MEDIUM risk)

ever since this started, a windows pop up has shown up:

"Windows Explorer has stopped working; Windows is checking for a solution
to the problem...(scans)...Windows is restarting...)
then the screen restarts (it flashes) and starts the process over again.

i have no spyware, and if i should, which is the best "brand"

PLEASE HELP!!!!
