Don't know if this is a fixable problem or not, every windows that i get there seems to be a problem =/ , but as the title states, most of the time when i restart or shutdown the PC, it goes to usual shutdown screen, says "Logging Off" then "Saving your settings" ..and at that screen it freezes up. Nothing works, mouse doesn't move.

Any Ideas of what it could be? Its been happening since the beginning.

Thanks,

-x-1stG3ar.

A good start to troubleshooting your problem would be to tell us all the details of your system. i.e. OS version, home built or OEM, hardware details, antivirus/firewall version, etc...

I believe the problem is software related. The "OEM Virus and Firewall" was Norton, or something else?

    Vet AntiVirus
    eTrust Pest patrol Anti Spyware.
Dont think i had a firewall apart from the microsoft one.

Shutdown problems are almost always driver or software. It's rare for it to fall outside those two categories.

How did you removed the eTrust and Vent Antivirus? How soon after removal did the problem start?

Also try shutting down your current AV software and rebooting. Shutting things down before a restart one per reboot can sometimes reveal the culprit.

Ejecting the CD tray before a reboot can help also, even if it is empty. There may be something that gets stuck trying to scan it, floppies also.

Oh the problem started way before i removed the Antivirus+firewall. About 6months after i bought the PC (About 2years ago).

I'll try ejecting the CD trays before shutdown.

Strange question here but what type of Modem do you use ? I have observed similar behaviour from folks using USB modems many times.

Also, when was the last time you reinstalled your pc? Are there newer drivers for any of you components? Updating drivers might resolve the issue. Otherwise I would encourage you to reinstall the pc if it's been more than 6 months or a year.
