Folder on desktop crashes everything

Right. You can ignore all of that. I tried to delete the account again, it crashed, but the account seems to be gone. Some files are left, but none of them cause problems.

A while ago, I attempted to download a file to this folder. When I tried to do so, Firefox crashed. That wasn't much of a problem, but it ended up with a major effect on the folder. Basically, any program that tries to access the folder crashes immediately. This has caused a major problem, since scanning programs are also crashed.

I have tried many methods to get rid of it, but none have worked. Attempting to delete it the normal way causes Explorer to crash. Letting the mouse hover over it for too long causes Explorer to crash. Command prompt has crashed when I have attempted to delete it through that, including when the computer was set to safe mode. I created a second user account and have switched to that, then attempted to delete the first, but this causes a crash and everything remains.

Would there be any way to solve this kind of problem other than reformatting the hard drive? I don't think I would be able to do so, since I don't have the disc for installing the operating system. I apologize if this is in the wrong forum.
