Which broadband for Yorkshire, England

edited August 2007 in Science & Tech
I'm looking to buy a new broadband package but I don't know which. I found an AOL package but it doesn't say about any usuage cap and I don't know if AOL are any good or if you can use IE instead of their crappy browser and if you can play online games. I need a package with unlimited usuage cap, 2mbps speed and comes with a free wireless router.

AOL requires proprietary connection software, they have caps and last I checked don't give you a free wifi router. However as for other providers it'll be limited by where you live.

I'm in a town called Rotherham in South Yorkshire in England. The phone area code is 01909.I know for sure that AOL in England are giving away a free wireless router.

Usually AOL is the portal for another ISP like Verizon(did work for VerizonDSL a while back). Not sure if you're an AOL user or not, but generally I'd stay away from portals like them. Dunno what's in your area though.

So could I still use IE?

    yes but aol are crap

from what i understan they run through a proxy so all the pages you go to are filtered

    or something like that

i found them to be pants

and if you ever want to disconnect from them, prepare yourself for a 20 minute interrogation into the reasons why

they may be better now but when i was with them (quite a few years back) they were really cack

virgin media has been ok since i got it sorted out but their tech support is pretty crap

pipex used to be excellent but now they have gone down the pan

virgin are a bit expensive for £15 a month for 1mb. And they say I can only get non-cable broadband if that that helps.

ive heard mixed reviews for tiscali but more good than bad

which, when it comes to reviews on ips's, is quite an achievement

Go here and put your phone number and post code in to see exactly what's available in your area. UK only but still a great site for us.

BT wholesale products are sold by practically every ISP in the country so you won't see them specifically listed.

AOL uk is now operated by virgin I think, Tiscali are really poor for customer service and FUP . if available BEunlimited are good for LLulu service.

orange are freeserve/wannadoo rebranded prior to moving to BB with talktalk, I used them for dial up each change of name seemed to worsen the service i recieved. oh yes and it got more expensive each time too.
