Judge overturns $1.52bn patent verdict

Calling the $1.52bn pro-Alcatel judgment served in February "Against the clear weight of evidence," District Court Judge Rudi Brewster has overturned the ruling in favor of Microsoft. In his 43 page missive on the case, he indicated that Microsoft had not violated one of the two patents in question, and had a standing license for the second. While Alcatel prattles on about juries and respect, Microsoft is chugging the bubbly and assembling the Voltron of legal teams for the inevitable second, third, and eleventy-billionth round in court.
