For now, the videocard will be a GF 7300SE from DELL that was shipped to me as a wrong item. and will get the Tuniq tower HSF for the CPU. Im also thinking about getting a IDE PCI card to use my old storage HDD in the system. are those reliable and how is the speed?

If you're going to be using a video card, the P5K-V isn't a good choice; it has integrated video, you're better off getting something like the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3.

I am looking at the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R but it looks like the Patriot memory I got will not be supported by this board, am I correct? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128050

It'll work, I promise. The memory support list is simply a list of RAM vendors who have paid gigabyte (Or any other company) to be validated. Darn near any memory will work in any board, as long as the type and speed grade is supported.

Thrax's recommendation looks right to me. It's a good choice.

P.S. Thrax are you from Michigan?

I hate zipzoom already... called them numerous times throughout the day the machine says everyone is currently busy assisting other customers, leave your number, order number blah blah. I even left a msg. and nothing has happened. Good thing this is only the CD/DVD ROM.

has anyone experienced with zipzoom? what do you think about them?

They're okay, but not as good as Newegg by a long shot.

Yeah, I never had a single problem with newegg. The first time i had to use their customer service when was i did not ground my mobo and I had to RMA it, not questions, and it was super quick.

I ordered my stuff on newegg on the 6th and I got them on the 8th in the morning! I love getting packages, its like a surprise!

Im putting everything together but have some simple questions. The FAn RPM detection from the PSU, where would that connect to? the system fan 3-pin connector?

and on the mainboard powercord with the 20+4 connector, I DONT use that 4 pin? instead I use the one that say 12v? 4-pin connector?

    thanks Thrax

That PSU has the main ATX connector that can break apart into a 20 pin and a 4 pin. Both of these go in the MAIN ATX connector for the motherboard.

Then there is an additional socket for a 4 pin or 8 pin plug elsewhere on the mobo, I believe it's by the CPU socket, this is for the separate 4 connector that does not come attached to the ATX plug by default.

Yes, the RPM detector goes into the mainboard.

This is great, I got everything work perfect, except for the tv wonder 550 pro that stopped work in my old PC is also not working in this one. The Catalyst media center doesnt show up anywhere on the computer.

This thing is whisper quiet! Now I will be looking into OCing learning about it. I will need CPU-Z and what other programs to monitor OCing?

for this mobo, does it prevent bad settings from taking affect and potentially damaging things?
