Pirate Party gains US arm in Utah

If the Pirate Party's local leader, Andrew Norton, can field 2000 signatures before February of 2008, the US Pirate Party can officially be placed on the state's primary ballot as an organized political party. Norton hopes that they can gain more traction in the US than the European arm was capable of soliciting in a failed bid to grab a parliamentary seat in Sweden.
As the US arm attempts to pick up steam, it is quick to remind people that the party is not about lawlessness and the abandonment of intellectual property. The website notes, "We've chosen to adopt the Pirate name so as to pay homage to the creative artists of the past, or as they would now be known, Pirates, thieves, and copyright infringers."
Have fun storming the castle.
