Windows Movie Maker

Okay, so I have a video file open in Windows Movie Maker and its working perfectly with both video and sound. Then I want to remove some of the video so I split the frame, then I play to the end of the part I want to keep and split it again, but as soon as I delete the very first part of the movie, the rest of the movie goes blank with just the sound remaining.

Any ideas as to what causes this?

Thanks.
