I read about DVD RAM. Is this just a typo or can something like this be done?

Yup, DVD RAM has been around for a long time now, 4.7gb to a side, double sided disks.

perhaps you're a bit confused about what DVD-RAM is... DVD RAM is an optical disk, just like a DVD or CD, that you can write 4.7gb of data to -- like a DVD burner. It's used for data backup.

    ;D

Windows would run fast on it. Especially in raid.

That is what I was hoping.... Oh well, maybe someone will invent system memory like that. What stops that from happening?(besides todays technology) Why can't there be removable "RAM" style memory? At a bandwidth of DVD, that could be a pretty cool unit... I think...

Because it's as slow as ****.

DVD's are normally about 28MBp/s maximum. RAM is along the lines of 3.2GBp/s. Slight difference.

Yeah, I guess... OK, so it can't be done... Or shouldn't at least...

If you really want to do it, think about page files. You're hard drive is a lot faster than a DVD-RAM drive, and think how slow page file access is in comparison (Using the HD as RAM). No do you still want to do it? :)
