The finish line has been crossed, ladies and gentlemen. While numerous hacking teams have been busy beavering away to bust Apple and AT&T's superlative encryption, iphonesimfree has won the race. Using no hardware hacks of any kind, they can open the iPhone to operate on any GSM network. In the United States, AT&T and T-Mobile are the only carriers, but abroad, the possibilities expand significantly.

This development comes on the heels of yesterday's announcement that a high schooler had successfully duped the iPhone, but required a couple hours of hardware modification to achieve. All that's left from here is to further refine the process, and get these hacks into the wild.
