HJT Log...help please!

I'm back......

Due to a lightning/thunder storm, I logged off and turned my computer off. I also unplugged the surge protector it's plugged into. When bringing the computer back up, it would go to the safe mode/prompt screen, and then a message appeared stating the monitor was going to sleep. I tried again...same thing. I tried logging on to the last saved option, but it still went to sleep. I finally caved and did the system restore. Then, a message appeared that I had the Trojan virus. So, that's why I'm here. I need help...again!

I've done all the steps in "Steps To Take Before Posting A HJT Log". Also, when I was downloading Kaspersky Online Scanner ( I think it was this download), I had a Windows Stop Error. I tried the download again with no problem. Attached are the reports from all the downloads and the HJT log:

Hi, sorry for the delay.

While there is something showing in the Kaspersky scan, your problems are likely due to having two anti-virus programs (AntiVir and Norton). This is not a good idea. Multiple anti-virus program conflict with each causing all sorts of problems, especially like the one you described.

You need to uninstall either AntiVir or Norton via Add/Remove programs.

Once you have done that, post a new HijackThis log.

1. I see that you have Spybot S&D's Teatimer installed. While this is a good program, it may be necessary to disable it temporarily so it does not interfere with our fix. To do so, please follow:

1. Open Spybot S&D
2. Click Mode in the toolbar
3. Select Advance Mode
4. Click Tools
5. Click Resident
6. Uncheck the box next to Resident Tea-Timer
7. Close Spybot S&D

2. Open HijackThis
- Click the Do a system scan only button

I've totally screwed up my computer. I have no icons, no task bar, no start button.......nothing!!!

This is my reply from the previous post before my icons disappeared. I've checked SpyBot S & D's Tea-Timer, and it wasn't checked. I did a scan system only, checked the ones you requested, and I deleted those 3 items. I am attaching the VirusTotal Scan and a new HJT log.

Now..the newest problem....as for my icons disappearing......an error popped up stating the monitor didn't pass the logo inspecation. I clicked stop installation, and my icons appeared. Then it went to the Microsoft screen with a Windows Stop Error. Before stopping the installion of the monitor pass test, I restored the computer...again. The same error popped up, and that is when I decided to try the stop installation button. So far, all icons are there, and the computer is working.

Hi scrumptous,

You posted the Uninstall list, and not the HijackThis log but it's OK for now.

Please do the following...

1. Find and delete the following File in RED:

D:\I386\APPS\APP27517\src\HPSummer2005.exe

2. Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update to the latest version...

Updating Java:

• Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2.
• Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications."
• Click the "Download" button to the right.
• Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement."
• The page will refresh.
• Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
• Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
• Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove the following...
  • Adobe Reader 6.0.1
  • J2SE Runtime Environment
  • Remove WeatherBug installer
• Reboot your computer once the above are removed.
• Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u2-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.

3. Download and install the latest version of Adobe Reader

4. Post a new HijackThis log.

Sorry about the uninstall log. I overlooked the HJT instructions. Where would I find the file you wanted me to delete? I assumed since it was D:\, I would look in that drive. When I click on the D drive, it brings up a recovery screen. I've uninstalled the older Java and installed the newer version. I've also uninstalled the olderAdobe and installed the newer version. Weatherbug Installer has also been uninstalled.

You may wish to Print or Save the following instructions, as the internet will not be available once in Safe Mode!

Please download AVG Anti-Spyware to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder.

• Install AVG Anti-Spyware by double clicking the installer.
• Follow the prompts. Make sure that Launch AVG Anti-Spyware is checked.
• On the main screen under Your Computer's security.
  • Click on Change state next to Resident shield. It should now change to inactive.

Download the Full database to your Desktop or to your usual Download Folder and install it by double clicking the file. Make sure that AVG Anti-Spyware is closed before installing the update.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.

• If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
• Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
• Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
• Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
• Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
• Login on your usual account.

Once in Safe Mode:

Close ALL open Windows / Programs / Folders. Please start AVG Anti-Spyware and run a full scan.

• Click on Scanner on the toolbar.
• Click on the Settings tab.
  • Under How to act?
    • Click on Recommended Action and choose Quarantine from the popup menu.
  • Under How to scan?
    • All checkboxes should be ticked.
  • Under Possibly unwanted software:
    • All checkboxes should be ticked.
  • Under Reports:
    • Select Do not automatically generate reports
  • Under What to scan?
    • Select Scan every file.
• Click on the Scan tab.
• Click on Complete System Scan to start the scan process.
• Let the program scan the machine.
• When the scan has finished, follow the instructions below.
  IMPORTANT : Don't click on the "Save Scan Report" button before you did hit the "Apply all Actions" button.
  • Make sure that Set all elements to: shows Quarantine (1), if not click on the link and choose Quarantine from the popup menu. (2)
  • At the bottom of the window click on the Apply all Actions button. (3)
    
• When done, click the Save Scan Report button. (4)
  • Click the Save Report as button.
  • Save the report to your Desktop.
• Right-click the AVG Anti-Spyware Tray Icon and select Exit. Confirm by clicking Yes.

Reboot back into Normal Mode and post a new HijackThis log, along with the AVG Anti-Spyware log.

I've installed and ran the AVG Anti-Spyware. Rebooted in Safe mode and ran the AVG. Nothing was found, but I am attaching the report. I'm also attaching the new HJT log. Also, where would I find the file you mentioned that needed to be deleted?

We'll delete that file now...

Run HijackThis and click on Open the Misc Tools section.
Click on Delete a file on reboot...
Copy and paste the following into the "File name:" text box and then click Open:

D:\I386\APPS\APP27517\src\HPSummer2005.exe

When you are asked "Do you want to restart your computer now?", click OK.

Your PC MUST reboot to delete the file!

Apart from that, your HijackThis log. How is the computer?

So far, the computer seems to be doing fine. I am still getting the monitor error when I reboot the computer. I click stop installation, and everything seems to be okay. Thanks for all the help. You guys do great work!
