Short and sweet:

While playing World of Warcraft and using the Ventrilo software, I can hear everything that everyone is saying, but I myself cannot speak through my microphone. The headset I have is a plug and play set. I've gone through the microsoft website for this problem and it didn't do jack squat.

I'm assuming you are using Vista. I had a guildmate that had this identical problem. I found the forum post he made about it. This is how he fixed it.

Right click on the speaker icon in the Notification Area of the Taskbar, select Recording Devices, right click on the window and select both Show Disabled Devices and Show Disconnected Devices, if your Microphone is disabled, enable it and select it as Default. You can also go through the Configure and Properties of the microphone to set it up.

If that doesn't work, then the good old reinstall of your sound card drivers may be in order.

    Edit:

Also, make sure the settings in Vent are correct and you have your outbound set higher.

I don't have Vista, just good old XP Proffessional. And like I said in my previous post, I've looked up this issue in Microsoft's troubleshooting section and that didn't solve my problem either. So, anyone who's got some helpful information that's willing to share would be appreciated.

Are you using Push-to-talk? If so, double-check the config to make sure it's set up properly. Have you tried changing the Input Device and just tweaking your set up a bit?

Is the headset USB or two separate jacks for mic and headphones?

Edit: One more thing, are your guildies seeing action on your side? Like, is the icon next to your name turning green ever? Ask your guildies when you try to speak.
