Intel is expected to push its Penryn architecture which includes the Harpertown quad core and Wolfdale dual core processors into this holiday season, which will spice up the 4th quarter for its 2 way server market. This news comes right on the heals on AMD's announcement of the launch of its much touted Barcelona processor on September 10th, and it is most likely the makings of either a trouncing or a war between both companies.
The Penryn 45nm processor line is suppose to increase performance and power efficiency across the board and is the holy grail of Intel’s current deck of cards. 9 Harpertown processors will be launched as the 5400 series and will represent the new line of quad core Xeons. Wolfdale will launch with 3 processors and will represent the 5200 series.
