wireless internet sharing xp and vista

edited September 2007 in Science & Tech
just got a

PC (Gateway) - Windows XP SP2 [wireless usb adaptor]

Laptop - Windows Vista Home Premium

now when setting up a wireless connection between the two, i can't seem to see the connection created on XP from my laptop (Vista)

so i created an adhoc connection on the laptop, which XP can see and connect to...

i set up the ip on my laptop and pc below

pc: (with internet sharing enabled)
ip - 192.168.1.1

laptop:
ip - 192.168.1.2
gateway - 192.168.1.1

i can actually do file sharing but i can't getonline on the laptop, i can get online when i connect the PC and laptop with Ethernet cable tho...

i tried making the account usernames and passwords the same on both computers but still no luck

i'm totally clueless on tackling this... anyone help me please

Do you have DNS settings plugged into the 2nd computer?

I think hes asking if you set a static dns server.

What I mean is that your primary machine is only acting as the gateway it's not handing out any information, basically it's no smarter then the modem in this respect. So in your second machine since the IP is statically set did you also plug in values for primary/secondary dns? If not it won't be able to resolve anything you throw at it.
