Unable to run anything!

Windows loads up and looks like it is going to work okay, until I try to open anything. I can't install anything either. The computer asks what to open with. It's like the file associations are all gone.

    First immediate problem is that you've got a corrupted symantec installation there. It looks to me like the program files were deleted (or changed) and it wasn't uninstalled properly. If that was a Symantec security sweet and not just anti-virus that could be causing most of your grief as it monitors the opening of every piece of software on your system.

    First thing I'd try is to boot up into safe mode (start hitting F8) as your computer boots up and seeing if you can get into add/remove programs and uninstall anything symantec related. Then I'd suggest doing a repair install.
