Most newer games will run fine. It's some older ones, that will often cause headache. The first thing to try as a work around to a game that won't install is to install it into your 'My Documents' instead of the normal Program Files and run it in compatibility mode. Often the programs aren't running because they can't deal with the added security layer that Vista has. That layer though doesn't exist in your My Documents folder.

What games are you trying to run? I have yet to find a XP based game that won't run properly on Vista. (but than again I might not have the same games as you)

well thats the thing, i dont have my laptop yet (should be here in about a week ^^). but the XP games i'll definatly want to play are BF 2142, WoW (World of Warcraft), and the whole DoW (Warhammer: Dawn of War) series, wondering about Crysis aswell but i suspect it being so recent i wont have any trouble with that one.

All the games you listed will work fine in Windows Vista, so you do not need to worry about that.

What graphics card is going to be in your new system?

or I should ask what are the system specs?

    XPS M1710
    Intel Dual Core 2.0 Ghz
    2Gb of DDR2 RAM
    512mb GeForce Go 7950 GTX

oh yeah btw, are these specs nice enough to run bioshock on med to full graphics ?

They will run the game at full graphics but will lack Dx10 support. To some the Dx10 difference is big enough to notice while to others it isn't.

With Crysis around the corner your 7950 GTX will run it some what well but not full throttle. This is usually the case with any laptop unless you got an Alienware SLI laptop. But even than they are not comparable to their desktop brothers…

Here is my new laptop : http://icrontic.com/articles/asus_f3svb1_laptop_review

just compleated a review on it, I got the Mobile 8600GS and it runs most games at high settings at full res or a little lower :)

8800's are not available in laptops yet :( the best GPU in laptops currently is the 8700GT.

It retails currently at $1549.99 @ newegg

I see, i see. So d'you reckon my 7950's the same or comparable to some of the 8000 series?. Just wanna know roughly how long it'll last me before i have to fork out for another PC. :p

the 7950 is on par with the 8600GT minus DX10 support :) or I should say it is betetr than the GPU in my new laptop with is the 8600GS, by like 10%

Ah k, so d'you reckon i'll have any trouble with games in the future if I'm lacking dx10 support or is it just something that if i have it, it makes the game quality better.

Dx10 is just a new code that allows more instructions to be used, in turn allowing games ot look better. None of the current Dx10 games are really that impressive compared to their DX9 counter parts, but Crysis is suppose to be the show stopper for DX10 :)

Outside of that your system will play new games for a long time... just might not be able to get uber high settings.
