The SMP client requires that you install it with admin rights, and also uses the same credentials to start the SMP service.
Besides that, Folding in Vista is not a problem.

I just checked, I am an admin. I exited folding program and reopened it and it apears to be working it says its writing local files. than it says it completed 0 out 1500000, than nothing else happens.. so idk what to do
There is a log file created in the same directory you have installed the client, called FAHLog.txt. If you post it´s contents we can tell you whats its doing and how its doing it.
I shut it down cause I did not know if it was working correctly..
If you want to know how to do that let us know and we can help you set it up...
Secondly, sounds like you are using a password, that's good. After you install the SMP client, be sure to get into the folding dir and run "install.bat". You must enter the same password that you use to login to windows to properly engage the services. When it says that all services have started with no errors, you're good to go. Run "fah.exe".
You might want to see UN's article about properly utilizing the quad's for maximum efficiency. Welcome to the fold!

I found smp version, however I ran install.bat and I can't get it working, I put my username on comp, than my password and confirm password and not working. help?
then enter your password (the same) twice.
One of my boxes wouldn't run and I had to delete all F@H and reinstall.
You are running Vista, so .net in included, might there be a patch needed?
Of course he could, but really, who wants 4 instances hanging around. That would personally drive me nuts.
I think Ed has got it. I was trying to remember the steps when running install.bat. The username portion will automatically use the name of the profile and like Ed suggested, you just hit enter and then input your password.
EDIT: Found the solution here.
Extracted from post:
In Vista, when all else fails, install.bat must be run as the GOD Administrator account, not a user account with Admin rights. And there is always an Administrator account, even if you don't see it.
NOTE: In Windows Vista, the Administrator account is disabled by default. To enable the account, open the Start menu, right-click on Computer and choose Manage. Next, expand Local Users and Groups and select the Users folder. The final step is to right-click on the Administrator login and choose properties. Clear the Account is Disabled checkbox and the Administrator account is enabled.
Go to Start Menu -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Command Prompt then right-click on this link and select "Run as administrator" and it should open the command line window with full rights and stay there. In this window, do CD \ to go to the root then go to the folding folder (mine is under C:\FAH-SMP\) then within the folder, type "install" and follow the instructions. After this, just type "fah" to run it.
EDIT #2: Better yet, found this guide for SMP under Vista.
