explorer.exe doesn't work

hello

my computer's been having major virus problems. first it started out by corrupting my kaspersky (trial version) threat signatures thereby disabling its anti-virus features and later when i restart the computer there are no taskbar or icons, only my background picture

i can still open windows task manager and run command prompts. but everytime i try to launch explorer.exe my icons for a moment and then nothing again, however i can still run programs like mspaint via command

sorry i don't have a hijackthis log, i recently joined this forum and had no idea about it, but i'm quite desperate at the moment
