I am at my GFs Grandmas house and I am trying to install her new printer. I never really installed her old one but there are drivers and SW installed for the Lexmark printer.

For one I cant even uninstall the printer SW. It says I am not an administrator which I am, the defaul user. User profile says I am. Even logged on as admin I cant uninstall it. Thats ok I guess.

So I try to add new printer and I get this error message below attached. I've tried uninstalling all the possible USB controllers but it still wont work.

When I try to install the driver straight from the CD I get this.

Have you tried going into device manager and "scan for hardware changes"?

    It is Win 2k right?

there's something bad going on. Check the print spooler service to make sure it's running, but also check the computer for virus/spyware infestations.

I'd say check the memory, but I'd get flamed... ;D

    But seriously, there's something bonko..

Go into services and make sure the print subsystem and spooler are enabled...

I remember (I am at home now) seeing the print spooler in the services but not another print service unless it used initials for its name.

I just looked at the machine I am on, also 2k, and I dont see another service with printer in it.

On the 'Server' description it says 'Provides RPC support and file, print, and name sharing. Its not exactly sharing it with any other computer.

How can I totally uninstall the USB controller and everything. I also get an error that there are not enough resources. Safe mode? In windows I cant uninstall all the devices.

Uninstall the USB Root Hub devices.. In fact, you could try uninstalling all USB entries. Yeah, you should do it in safe mode.
