The PS3's first AAA title? Heavenly Sword released

Boy oh boy does Sony's PlayStation 3 need a seriously good first party title. Sales are rotten, enthusiasm is waning, and one of their showcase titles recently got absolutely trounced by the press.
If the odds sound bad, that might be the kind of scenario that Nariko feels comfortable in. Nariko is the fiery red-headed heroine of Sony's new Heavenly Sword - a game which pits the lone warrior against wave after wave of ravening foes.
One of the first things that stands out about this title is the amount of effort that went into the production side of things. The production team went through a painstaking motion capture process with real actors in order to get all the cutscenes to be as realistic and immersive as possible. If you get a chance, view the "making of" videos.
The PlayStation 3, as a gaming platform, desperately needs this game to become a hit. There's nothing quite as good as a solid first party title to give a sagging console a shot in the arm. Perhaps Heavenly Sword + the holiday shopping season + price drops will turn Sony's fortunes around and bring the PS3 back into the ring with Microsoft and Nintendo.
Look for an Icrontic review as soon as we spend some time with the game.
