Please help!!! Virus's stink.

This pc I'm working on is very, very slow, and is showing signs of a virus. The virus scan showed some files cleaned, but it's still very slow. Also, the one step that wouldn't work at all was the panda online scan. It kept giving an error message saying the active x control can't be installed. I know one of the issues is windows is not updated to SP2 yet. I wanted to make sure it was clean before I went forward with the update. Below are the requested logs, sans the panda log.

Hi and welcome to the forums.
My name is Kairis. I'll be glad to help you with your computer problems.
I have to let experts check the content of my fixes before I post.

HijackThis logs can take some time to research. I know that you need
your computer working as quickly as possible, and I will work hard to help see that happens.

    Please be patient.

Hi and wellcome to the forums.

    Step# 1
Disable one of your Anti Virus programs.
You are operating your computer with multiple Anti Virus programs running in memory at once:
    AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic
    McAfee SecurityCenter

Anti-virus programs take up an enormous amount of your computer's resources when they are actively scanning your computer.
Having two anti-virus programs running at the same time can cause your computer to run very slow, become unstable and even, in rare cases, crash.
If you choose to install more than one antivirus program on your computer, then only one of them should be active in memory at a time.
Choose to keep just one: either the Antivir personal Edition or McAfee Security Center, and Uninstall the other, Using Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs.

    Step# 2
Next we need to stop a couple of processes that are running on your computer:
    Delete bad services
Please copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the following text in the quote to Notepad.(Not Wordpad).
Save it as "All Files" and name it FixServices.bat Please save it on your desktop.

    echo off
    sc stop McShield
    sc stop "mcupdmgr.exe"
    sc delete McShield
    sc delete "mcupdmgr.exe"
    sc stop MCVSRte
    sc delete MCVSRte
    exit

Double click FixServices.bat. A window will open and close. This is normal.

    Step# 3
    Please download ATF Cleaner
    -¤- Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
-¤- Under Main choose: Select All
-¤- Click the Empty Selected button.
    If you use Firefox browser
-¤- Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
-¤- Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
    If you use Opera browser
-¤- Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
-¤- Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
-¤- Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

    Step# 4
Please follow the instructions provided, you may want to print out these instructions and use them as a reference:
AVG Anti-Spyware only works on Windows 2000 and Windows XP (32-Bit)
Download AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program
    • Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
    • Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG Anti-Spyware and update the definition files.
    • On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.

      * Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
    • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
    • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
    • Under "Reports"

      * Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
      * Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
Close AVG Anti-Spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.
    • Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
    • Lauch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
    • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
    • AVG Anti-Spyware will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
    • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
    • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
    • Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
    • Close AVG Anti-Spyware and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the AVG Anti-Spyware report scan and a new HijackThis log, thanks.
    Step# 5
After you have completed the above, please provide:
    * AVG report
    * new HijackThis log
    * description of any problems you are having with your PC

I apologize for the delay getting to your log :coffee:

    # I understand that downloading music and other files may be important to you; however, the P2P programs that you
are using to do that, even if they are not infected with malware, will bring malware into your system.
Therefore, the chances of you becoming infected again are very high. This obviously can result in disabling your
computer and could even lead to someone stealing sensitive personal data from your computer.
Beyond the inconvenience this causes you, these programs also tend to use your computer as a server to spread
more infection all over the internet, so your computer becomes a part of the malware problem.

Remember that no matter how clean the program you're using for Peer-to-Peer filesharing may be, it offers no
guarantees regarding the cleanliness of files you may choose to download. All files available via P2P filesharing
carry a high risk, particularly those that offer you illegitimate methods of using legitimate software programs
without paying for them. Any program or file that offers you the ability to access non-freeware programs at
no cost, e.g., pirated software and/or cracks/key generators for gaining access to legitimate software, is 100% guaranteed to contain malware.

Here is some information that looks at the rates of infection:

With that being said, I recommend that you remove the following P2P program(s):
    LimeWire 4.9.30

You have an Indexing Service active:
Indexes contents and properties of files on local and remote computers; provides rapid access to files through flexible querying language.
    *This is a resource hog.
    Go to Start, My Computer
Right-click on the hard-drive letter for the system, (usually C: )
    Click Properties
Uncheck the box labeled "Allow Indexing Service to index this disk for fast file searching"
If it asks whether to apply to all files and folders, answer Yes.

    Update Java
Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system.
Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.
    • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2.
    • Scroll down (it's the fourth one down on the page) to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
    • Click the "Download" button to the right.
    • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
    • The page will refresh.
    • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
    • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
    • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
    • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
    • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
    • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
    • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
    • Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.
Please download FindAWF and save it to your desktop

    * Double-click FindAWF.exe to start the tool.
    * Select option #1 - Scan for bak folders by typing 1 and press 'Enter'
    * When the tool has completed, a report will open up in notepad. Please post the results of the awf.txt here with a fresh HijackThis log, thanks.

**Do not run any other option unless directed to do so.**

    "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\bak\qttask.exe"

There are still a few steps we need to perform however before we can announce that you are 'all clear'
To clean your computer, I asked you to download some tools.
I would like you to remove these tools and files that I have listed below from your computer

    * C:\FindAWF

    Remove bad HijackThis entries
    • Run HijackThis
    • Click on the "Do a System Scan Only" button
    • Put a check beside all of the items listed below (if present):

      O8 - Extra context menu item: &Search - ?p=ZCxdm492YYUS
    • Close all open windows and browsers/email, etc...
    • Click on the "Fix Checked" button
    • When completed, close the application.
To be sure you’re absolutely clean, I would like to run one last scan:
Just one step and then we are ready:
Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
    • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
    • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
    • Once the short scan has finished, Click Options > Change settings
    • Choose the "Scan"-tab, remove the mark at "Heuristic analysis".
    • Back at the main window, mark the drives that you want to scan.
    • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
    • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
    • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
    • When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found:
      check.gif
If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:
      move.gif
This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
    • After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
    • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
    • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
    • Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
    • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply with a new hijackthis log.

So how did I get infected in the first place?
    • Stand Up and Be Counted!
The site offers people who have been (or are) victims of malware the opportunity to
document their story and, in that way, launch a complaint against the malware and the makers of the malware.
You can also delete Dr.Web CureIt from the desktop.
