Actually I'm HOPING for a RROD. Kyle plays Forza 2 daily, which is encouraging (Forza 2 is supposed to be good at bricking 360s). That way I can get one of the newer revs with the better heatsink, etc.

I though MS was insane when they first announced the XBOX's would be based on HD tech. I mean come on, everyone knows HD's don't last forever! Part of the evil MS plot to make everyone upgrade continuously I guess, even before you really need to. Case in point, Vista only DX10, and Vista only MS games.

Probably the reason why they got out of PC hardware. Their stuff was pretty good actually. Probably didn't break fast enough to make any money on repeat buys!

They're not really "based on" HD tech. You can run a 360 completely without a hard drive.

PWNED! For some reason I thought that was the cause of the problems. I've always heard of the HD failing. Never actually played one so I'm an ignoramus! True blue PC gaming fan, but I still play the GC with my kid.

It's an overheating issue. They're installing more heatsinks in newer models now.

So what exactly is this "red ring of death" and why does it happen?

my friend bought a used xbox 360 and didnt even get any warrenty or insurance or anything, a month after he got it he got this "red ring of death"

now he is screwed because he has to buy a new one

The 360's ring of lights is used to show how many controllers are connected and is also used for troubleshooting. Three flashing red lights indicates hardware failure, hence the name. ;)

I've wanted a 360 for some time now, but the failure rate has always been stuck at the back of my head... I mean, I've heard that they've taken steps to combat the problem but seriously, I haven't had any game system fail me. Ever. It's just something I'm not ready for after being raised on Nintendo systems, I guess.

    wow that sucks.....

im just happy that I never buy any high end system until like 2 years after they come out lol.

only system I have ever got right after it came out, was the wii. And I highly doubt that will fail lol.:D

even if he bought his USED from game stop?

if so I better tell him before he buys a new one, or maybe I should wait, then after he buys his new one ill have him get his old one fixed and give it to me. hmmmmm:rolleyes::D:cool:

ok I have a serious question.......

I told my friend that he can send his xbox 360 in under manufactures warranty.

But he said he doesn't want to wait and that he is selling it for 100$.

    meanwhile, I really want a xbox 360

so I need to know if I SHOULD convince my mom to buy it for 100$ and then send it in to fix it??

you can get it fixed for the cost of the purchase + shipping. No fee for warranty work.

so your saying I can just buy it off him for 100$ and then send it in and get it fixed for only shipping cost right?

yep. As long as you have the proof of purchase so they can confirm the warranty.

    Awesome

all I have to do is find out if he has his proof of purchase and then convince my mom to lend me 100$ lol
