This weekend I ran a refactory on my laptop for a fresh start and to reclaim 10GB of HDD space from a linux partition for some game installs...

I wasn't thinking clearly.

Of course, the refactory installed only into the primary partition. I didn't realize that until after I had done a lot of tweaking and updates.

Is there any good reliable freeware out there that will allow me to merge my other (now empty) HDD space into the primary partition? I'm preferably looking for something that runs from a boot disc so I don't have to install another program and mess with the active partition while the OS is running from it...

Use GParted. Linux LiveCD, resize your primary partition to include the entire drive.

Easy. That's something I can do in a hurry on vmware. :) I'll crack it out today.

Awesome, thanks Thrax. On the GParted sourceforge page, there's a link to download their LiveCD version... I'll give it a shot tonight.

GParted worked like a charm. Simple to use, nice UI, and it was almost instant.

    Thanks for the recommendation, Thrax!

I still say a hobby knife and some modeling glue would have been an easier solution.
