new problems...hjt log

tonight, i started getting popups...and trying to close them has resulted in errors in both firefox and explorer. avast and trend micro both detected trojans and deleted them...but they keep coming...an internet speed monitor and saatchi art gallery pop up. below is log. any help is appreciated.

thanks for responding. i wasn't sure anyone would. i downloaded the new version of hjt. the problems continue. weird popups. avast just found another trojan and i deleted it. i also deleted winable.exe. here is the recent log i just ran.

STEP #1

Please download,

ComboFix
ATF Cleaner
AVG Anti-Spyware

STEP #2

Run ATF Cleaner

Note: this program is for XP and Windows 2000 only

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox browser

Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

If you use Opera browser

Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

STEP #3

Configure and update AVG Anti-Spyware

Install and start AVG Anti-Spyware
Click the Update icon
Click Start update
Wait until updates are downloaded
Click the Scanner icon
Open the Settings tab
- Make sure that under "How to act?" read Quarantine (If not, click the text and choose Quarantine)
- Under "How to scan?" all checkboxes should be ticked
- Under "Reports" unselect Automatically generate report after every scan and Only if threats were found.
- Under "What to scan?" select Scan every file

Click the Shield icon
Under the "Resident shield is" click active to make it inactive
Close AVG Anti-Spyware ( do not scan yet )

STEP #5

Reboot into Safe Mode

Restart your computer
After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually
Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear
Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter
Choose your usual account.

STEP #6

Run AVG Anti-Spyware

Close all open windows / programs / folders
Start AVG Anti-Spyware
Click the Scanner icon
Click Complete System Scan
Let the program scan the machine
(do NOT use your computer while sanning)
When the scan has finished, follow the instructions below
- Make sure that under "Set all elements to" read Quarantine (If not, click the text and choose Quarantine)
- Click Apply all actions
- Click Save Report
- Click Save reports as
- Save report to your Desktop

STEP #7

Get back into Normal mode by restaring the computer.

Run Combofix

Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
Save the log to your desktop.

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. That may cause it to stall.

STEP #8

Post Combofix log and AVG Anti-Spyware report along with fresh HijackThis log.

I ran the AVG anti spyware...and did the steps you said, but the option to save the report was not available. So, I wrote down what it found and if you'd like, I can post it? Also ran ATF, and combo fix is running now (I'm on the desktop). After running AVG, the computer booted up better than it has in over a week. Not the 20-30 minutes it had been taking. But, upon booting up, I've been hit with a barrage of trojan, spyware, virus warnings. Popups claiming to be for microsoft but the domain says www.savetheinformation.com. Now it says i'm unprotected from new version of SpyBot@Mxt trojan. I'm getting a system performance warning that says my performance is reduced by 47% and my internet connection is down by 39%. It's creepy. Thank you for all you are doing for me. It's going on 4 am here...so i'll most likely let the combofix finish, save the report save an hjt log and if it's soon i'll post it, if not, i'll post tomorrow.

ok...they're done. i'm still getting hit...spybot s&d picked up on registry values being changed and i keep denying and they keep coming. i'm still getting the "bogus" security warnings? I say bogus because on one of them there were misspelled words. i enabled the IE popup blocker since that's what they open in...i use firefox. below are the combofix and hjt logs...thanks again. also, there are 2 new icons on the desktop...online security guard and live safety center. AH! MAKE IT STOP! They're driving me insane.

when i tried to save the AVG log, the option to save wasn't available. do i need to re-run? under reports i have selected automatically create report after every scan and i UNchecked only if threats are found. is this correct?

Please close teatimer

While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things.
Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.
This is a two step process:

Step 1

Right click Spybot in the System Tray (looks like a calendar with a padlock symbol)
Choose Exit Spybot S&D Resident

Step 2

Open Spybot S&D
Click Mode, check Advanced Mode
In the Left Panel, Click Tools, then also in left panel, click Resident
If your firewall raises a question, say OK
UNcheck the box labeled Resident Tea-Timer and OK any prompts.
Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot
Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.

If you don't do it this way, the registry settings remain when you exit.
In addition TeaTimer may put itself back

I ran AVG again in Safe Mode, double checked the options for the report you gave me, and it still didn't give me a choice to save the report. It only found 2 things this time. 1 high risk, 1 low risk. High- Downloader.Agent.dpn , Low- Not-a-Virus.downloader.win32. I just made the changes to Spybot so i'll fix the items in HJT and repost a log.

well...i went to fix those items, and only the second one and the last one were listed on the HJT scan..i'm not getting the popups that i was, but it still loads very slowly(10-20 min). it also froze when i tried to run HJT again. It freezes when I go to Start>Turn Off also. I'm about to try and run HJT again and if it works, i'll post it.

If that doesn't work, please use Kaspersky Online Virus Scan (Internet Explorer only)

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the licence, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%.

The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
Now click on Scan Settings
In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
- Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
- Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
- Scan Options:
- Scan Archives
  Scan Mail Bases
Click OK
Now under select a target to scan:
- Select My Computer
This will program will start and scan your system.
The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
- Now click on the Save as Text button:
Save the file to your desktop.

i checked...no log. i tried the online virus scan...it ran 3 minutes, then the computer froze. now, everytime i turn it on, it won't load completely. it freezes before the icons in the system tray load. should i try to go into safemode and attempt a system restore to a time before i started the scan? and if so, can i run avg in normal mode and see if it lets me save a report that way?

To start your computer by using the Last Known Good Configuration feature, follow these steps:

Start your computer.
When you see the "Please select the operating system to start" message, press the F8 key.
When the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, use the ARROW keys to select Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked), and then press ENTER.
If you are running other operating systems on your computer, use the ARROW keys to select Microsoft Windows XP, and then press ENTER.

i did what you said and i've had the computer on now for over an hour, it's currently 12:13 am, and the computer clock says it's 11:12 pm. so it's been trying, but will go no further. suggestions? tomorrow, i may try to run AVG in safe mode again, because typically, right after i've ran that program, it boots up better. if that doesn't work, what should i do?

If Kaspersky doesn't work, please try Panda ActiveScan.

Panda ActiveScan

- Once you are on the Panda site, click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Do NOT lose it!

Note: The scans must be done using Internet Explorer!

well...i actually got a report to save from avg, and it sound nothing found. the computer boots fine now...it loads correctly. i deleted the odd icons that popped up on the desktop. the only problem is that when i try to open any item on the desktop, it freezes. I'm going to try the windows xp repair and see if that works. if you could help, please. i'll let you know how it works when it's done.

edit, if it works, i'll run the panda scan.

Hi, and sorry for the delay. So your problem is that you can't go online? Just now I don't have any ideas. But your HijackThis log is clean, so maybe it isn't caused by malware.
