Texture Seams

edited November 2003 in Hardware
Does anyone know what video card feature might help reduce texture seams? I've got a radeon 9800 pro with rage3d tweak and i'm thinking one of these options has to help it out. I feel like they didn't always used to be there but any number of adjustments i've made could have caused them.

What applications are you getting these Texture seams in? All of them, or only certain programs?

As well, could you provide a screenshot to assist? :)

The app is Final Fantasy XI. It seems to be only in that game but i haven't been playing much else lately. I'll see if i can get a screenshot but the stuff i'm talking about is little flickers (lines or dots depending on your angle) where two texture tiles meet making it look like a seam.

Um, decreasing AA and AF can casue this, things get TOO sharp and you see edges at some refresh rates. If even all round, it is probably this mostly. If mostly top and bottom, might be a refresh rate, ditto if mostly side margins. Overlap is too small a refresh rate, too big a horizontal refresh rate gives you vertical bars, too big a vertical one gives you horizontal bars, and monitor versus card abilties can cause this and worse. Probably one of these or both (AA\AF or refresh rates).

Unfortunately, if it is just one game then it is not just this unless game is real old compared to others that work in which case GAME may not be tuned for high-res monitors now in use and you might HAVE to use more AA for that game relative to othrs to get it working and the system balanced to the more modern games.

John-- who got a lesson in that LAST week while balancing the new LCD in Linux versus Windows, had to do it O\Ss to get both to look good. Linux likes it with a 74 refresh, Windows with a 75. Detailling differences with one monitor and one Readeon and one nVidia both feeding it alternately through a KVM.

I have FFXI also, FSAA and AF don't work in the game for some reason. I also get the glitches, both o/c and non-o/c.
