Firewire PCMCIA card - powered?
Hey folks - does anyone know of a Firewire PC card (PCMCIA) that provides a powered connection to the external device? My current card does not.
Application: want to use my laptop to sync with the ipod using firewire. laptop does not have firewire built in. have to use a PC card. Ipod battery stinks and doesn't last long enough to sync. The ipod has a new battery, but syncing can take a while since my audio files change frequently and massively and the battery does not last long enough!! (can you believe it?)
I have looked a bit online, but can't seem to located a PC card that is powered. But surely, there must be some, no?

So I learned something new. Have never seen or used something utilizing the power from a firewire port, but then again most firewire items I've used were external hard drives requiring an independent power supply.
As for your needs, I believe this would work (note that you'll also need to buy a separate power adapter):

My guess is that the PCMCIA slot can't provide enough power to operate firewire devices without some assistance (ie - an external power source).
