Hello, everyone i have a small problem. What the situation is i have a PC HD (One that would usualy be built in a computer.) And i used my IDE 2.0 USB conector to hook it up to my (Dell) PC for storage and to page(virutal memory). But once i hooked it all up and everything. I went to my computer>:F>properties and it said file format (FAT) size 2 GB i tried reformat didnt work so well. So then I unpluged it and pluged it back in, so it works fine its just that i cant do much with 2 GB when i know they dont make HD's that big there arnt any files on it except a 55 MB folder that i put on after i found out how small it was. and then i gave it 1000 - 1000 visual memory. hehe now my pc is alot faster. The 38 gigs would help alot more.

There different types of fat filesystems. If your drive is formatted using the old fat16, then you can't create any partitions bigger then 2 GB. You have to use fat32 or ntfs for larger sizes.

Also, i am not sure if it is a good idea to use it for virtual memory. Hard drives connected by ide or sata are faster then those connected by usb.

Why not install the drive in the pc? if you want to use it for virtual memory, you probably won't disconnect it to carry it around anyways.

bad idea to put a page file on an external drive - terrible idea in fact.

Your also correct the FAT file type limits partition size, number of files and size of files. It's fine for a thumb drive but for a HD it's pointless. If you are only using it for windows format it NTFS and you should be fine.
