Administrator in Vista

Though I have designated my user account in Vista to be as an administrator I am sometimes prevented from doing things for which I get a message that says my account is not an administrator account. recent example: I'm trying to immunize my system using Spybot v1.5 but I am getting a message that says 'This action may not be performed completely since you are not an administrator. If you want this performed for all users, please run this application elevated as an administrator.' It's not fully immunizing my system. I only have one user account on my machine, which is me and it is an administrator account. What's up with that?

Is it a work or school computer? I've found that my school computer will do this sometimes.

It's Vista, the admin is really not an admin. You have to right click the executable and choose "Run as... (Administrator)." Just another, er, "Feature."

Thanks. I never noticed that. What a pain.

Yep... you have limited admin abilities that only require a "Yes I REALLY mean to do that" pop up. Then there are some things that you need to elevate your powers. Like Thrax stated, Right click and select "Run As Administrator" and it will ask you for user name and password.

Is there a workaround? A fix? A hack? ANYTHING? I'm so tired of going through the whole proceed thing every time I wanna run Spybot or something...

No. It is what it is. It's a central element of Vista's security.

Bah! Useless POS. Why make a OS so secure the user nearly can't use it's full potential?

You only have to use that "Run As" a few times. I've used it, like, 5 times in order to get my system up and running. The normal request for elevated privileges is more common but acceptable and there is a hack for that. ;)
