Wine is what I believe you are looking for.... allows Windows Programs (not all- or always reliably) to run under Ubuntu (and other Linux versions).

Wine will run most windows Utilities well and some games ok. The game limits are games that push Directx. But the reality is if you want a game machine that you can go to the story buy any program you want and run it. Don't use linux.

Im gonna run it as a dual boot so it wont really matter if it wont play some of the games. I always have XP to switch back to.
