just checking some things

Hi there,

first of all thank you for your time and patience with me so far. I'm opening this thread to see if I can 'trust' this pc, or not. It's not something urgent, though.
Its windows (xp with sp2) are updated, but I bet its java isn't. My suspicions come from the fact that there's no Anti-virus, or Anti-spyware installed, nor is there any firewall - besides the windows resident one, I mean.

My brother is currently using this, and vehemently resists installing any of those protective programs, suggesting that they would hinder/deccelerate some of the online multiplayer games he plays. But since I have to use this computer for some days, I want to know approximetaly how safe things are here, if there's some urgent malware I ought to clean etc.

and here are some Task Manager screen caps:

    - the first shows all processes by decreasing memory usage

    - and the second by decreasing CPU % usage

Do you see something urgent I must do, or some malware I should really be worried about?

That's what I would like to know at first. I mean, if and when it's convenient to you guys. Just a glance and not specific instructions; just a quick reply: if I can proceed for now or if I should wait and must fix some things first.

So far, things have been going pretty much ok here, so I don't think it could be something urgent.

The log is clean. Although, as you know, the computer should have an Anti-Virus and Firewall installed.

Since the computer doesn't have any protection, I'd like you to run one scan:

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

    Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the licence, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%.
    • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
    • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
    • Now click on Scan Settings
    • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
      • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
      • Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
      • Scan Options:
      • Scan Archives
        Scan Mail Bases
    • Click OK
    • Now under select a target to scan:
      • Select My Computer
    • This will program will start and scan your system.
    • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
    • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
      • Now click on the Save as Text button:
    • Save the file to your desktop.
Post the Kasperksy log back here.
