In what is considered a landmark ruling in the EU, the Bristol Crown Court has found Neil Higgs guilty on 26 counts of copyright infringement for console mod chipping. Up until now, chipping has been something of a grey area in the EU, with most countries suggesting illegality but never capitalizing on the idea.
Higgs, who will be sentenced on a later date, is the first person convicted of copyright infringement for such a crime in the European Union. When the fuzz raided his abode, they found more than 3,700 chips and over a dozen modded consoles.
The man who called himself "Mr Mod Chip" who resides in Bristol, Blighty made more than £1m flogging his goods over the internet after importing them from Hong Kong.
Typical anti-piracy twittering from anti-piracy reps could be had in spades.
