Can an ASUS a7v133 use a 1700+ cpu?

edited October 2007 in Hardware
Hi everyone, my beloved 1.2 gig t-bird died on me this weekend (6 wonderful years together), and I need to replace my cpu.

Sure, you're all saying "buy a new one you cheap jerk!", but to be honest, I only use my computer for surfing and general use...I'm fine with the current setup for now, until I absolutely *have* to upgrade.

The trick is, I have an ASUS A7V133 mobo, and it can accomodate a 462 cpu anywhere from 500mhz -> ~1.3 ghz. Finding a 1.2 gig or 1.3 gig t-bird nowadays is pretty tricky, and I have found a 1700+ socket-A palomino for sale. The standard core speed is 1.46 ghz.

My question is, can I use this chip safely in my system, assuming I underclock it (stop laughing) to 1.3 ghz? Also, will it run stably at that speed?

Thanks guys, it's been so long since I've upgraded that this generation of cpus is quite a mystery to me.
