first of all, what do you mean by network is down?

Do you get an ip address at all on your computers? Is the router connected to the internet, is the router getting an ip at all?

like i said...pc to modem all is good.......modem to router to pc...nothing

have to walk me through any thing else from there....If i run my modem to my router my PC and my LT (laptop via W/less) get nothing...so it has something to do w/ the router...for some reason all of a sudden this thing has shut the door on me!...lol...

be more specific with your reply, what do you even mean by nothing? no connectivity at all (meaning computer showing unplugged cable), or there is IP but not able to ping anyone or what?

If your computer is connected to your router. Is your computer getting an IP from your router still? Can you access the web interface to your router? Have you tried a different port on your router?

If the side between your computer and your router is working, then reconfigure your routers WAN settings for PPPoE. It's possible something got screwed up, it happens.

It's also possible your router has just failed, that also happens.

its not a point of giving..its a poit of asking...i dont know what u need!...lol...I told u what i know....now that you have asked more questions...i can give you more answers....hmmm.....

Like i said..if the modem goes straight to the PC everything seems to be working fine...i can get on the web and all is good ...but as soon as i plug the modem into the router...nothing happens....all the lights turn on but when i hit the E on teh screen i get the cant connect page....Now to the specific questions by the specific people...

    LEI:

I realy dont know how to answer yours...I dont know how to ping stuff...actually thats not completely true...i used to..i just forgot...i know its the cmd thing and ping thing...but been a long time....geez...dos..is it really still around?

    Kryst:

As usual...the one to come up w/ the first simple no brainer solution to try...will give it a shot and let you know...obviously when i do i will loose connection so will get back to you...dont know why i didnt think of that...but then again...i do come here....alot ...for really simple advise!...lol...

    Gray:

You remind of someone else that used to post a lot on here...lol...if not willing to help you dont have to post either!...it not a point of not wanting to give...like i said..its not knowing what to give....or how to get what u want...but all the same...i could use the help and some us arent as knowledgeble about some things as others...so u must bear with us....as we do with those of you who we meet in our own career fields...

I guess you are running Windows XP, so I'll assume this is the case. I'll also assume you were/are plugged into the router instead of using wireless.

First with the router plugged up to the computer like it used to be when it worked, goto "Start>Control Panel>Network Connections" in this window the "Local Area Connection" should be showing, it should have details listed under it in grey text like "Network Cable Unplugged", "Limited or no Connectivity", or "Connected"... it might also have "Firewalled" listed or something else. If it does not show this information goto the "View" menu at the top of the window and select "Tiles" or "Details".
It should show you all the information necessary.

If it says it is "Connected" go ahead and right-click on the icon and goto "Status" then click on the "Support" tab at the top of the window that comes up and give the information showing in there. Most notably the IP address and gateway address.

Note: The 1394 connection that may or may not be in the "Network Connections" window usually says connected and has nothing to do with this, it's your fire wire connection if you have one. So ignore it.

Also correct me if I am wrong in assuming any of the above such as if you are running Windows XP(Home or Pro) or if you are Wireless or Wired into the router. I just got out of a help desk job where I dealt with way less knowledgeable folks than yourself, and when you said "when i hit the E on teh screen" I pretty much knew where you stand on all this. Which is cool because ultimately I know you ain't gonna yell at me for no reason and if you do... well I ain't gotta help ya haha! Helpdesk sucked!

    Cool RWB...I'm w/ ya....Im running XPpro...Normally...HOWEVER!!!!!!

Right now just to work online I am having to hook my wifes LT (Laptop Windows 2000) straight to the Modem because my DTs (Desktop) MB went belly up! Usually the LT is WL (Wireless).

Now on to what you asked for...be right back to find that out...had to pull the page up to run through it....because I loose connection as soon as I go from the modem to the router to the LT....

Yeah not sure what you mean by cloning. The only thing that comes to mind is on some newer Linksys routers they have an easy wifi setup button where if all the devices support it you can press the button on each and it goes around and sets them up automagically.
