IC11: dying hard drive
Garg

The hard drive on IC11 is flaking out again. It's actually done this before, but the problem went away a few months ago, and just resurfaced.
Usually, it will boot just fine, but it looks as if at some point hours later the hard drive quits responding. Strangely, the computer reboots (I would have expected it to just lock up and sit there). But, since the hard drive isn't responding at the time, it just sits there at the BIOS trying to identify the IDE drives. If I power cycle it manually, it starts up again, but it's a matter of time before it does it all over again.
I think I have one more spare HD - I'll get it installed this week when I can find it. I think this makes the fourth hard drive that's died in the "Icrontic_11 home for old hard drives."

ROFL!
Oh I believe it. You guys have enough beer left to have Novemberfests every weekend this month
Unfortunately, Keebs doesn't have to be sober for his sentry gun to eviscerate me.
I'm posting this from IC11, which is now up and running with the hard drive I got from DogDragon during the LAN. I've always liked that IC11 has parts from so many different IC members.
And, it's running Ubuntu 7.10! This is only my second experiment with Linux, so I'm pretty stoked about it. The wireless card wasn't working with the Live CD, so I spent over an hour researching ndis and drivers while Ubuntu was installing. Then it turns out the wireless worked just fine with a fresh install of the real deal
Oh Garg, did Sledge hook you up with more memory?
Thanks
Haven't heard back from him. I'm just wanting to try running IC11 on big WUs to see if it can bring in any more points.
Thanks TT! Just some DDR400. It's got one stick of 256mb right now.
Thanks for the offer, but it's running at 170mhz FSB right now (and I'm thinking of bumping it up), so pc2100 probably wouldn't be up to the task. Otherwise I totally wouldn't object to filling the other two slots on the board
