Hangs during Repair Install

edited November 2007 in Science & Tech
I have been trying to do a "repair install" to try and salvage my Raid 1 array which recently disappeared. After the 39 minute install the computer reboots, goes through the POST and then hangs a few seconds into the Windows Logo.
The screen turns teal blue (NOT BSOD) and the mouse pointer freezes in center screen.

Anyone know what's going on and how to fix it? I have tried to repeat the sequence - same results.

ASUS P5GDC Deluxe, ITE8212 Raid, with 2 Maxtor 160Gb PATA drives and 2Gb RAM. Win XP Pro.

Doing a repair install won't fix your raid, if your raid is broken and not visible. To fix your raid you need to get into the raid controller for your card and use it's tools.

If your raid is broken, you are better off to remove both drives from the machine and hook up 1 like it's a normal drive, not in a raid and make sure the data is intact. Then put them both back in repair the raid.

Trouble isn't your windows install, though it very likely is now messed up. Trouble is your raid.

    Thanx for responding
I removed both drives and slaved them each on another system. Data seems intact.
RAID recognizes the two drives but not the array so when I try to rebuild the array using the utility there is no array listed to rebuild.
If I try to create an array it tells me that I will lose all info ion the drive (don't want that).

Have you used the raid tools from the disk or the on board ones?

I used the onboard utility which was loaded on from the ASUS disk when I initially set up the system 1 1/2 years ago. It was running well in Raid 1 until just recently.
