Hi SeaBat200 and welcome to Icrontic Spyware & Virus Removal
    • Download HJTInstall.exe to your Desktop.
    • Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install it.
    • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
    • Click on Install.
    • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
    • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
    • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
    • Copy/Paste the log to your next reply please.
Don't use the Analyse This button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
Don't have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

    Hi SeaBat200

    Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Run the file, it will extract Smitfraudfix to its own folder and run.

Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

    Hi SeaBat200

Before we start fixing anything you should print out these instructions or copy them to a NotePad file so they will be accessible.
Some steps will require you to disconnect from the Internet or use Safe Mode and you will not have access to this page.

Please reboot to Safe Mode (tap the F8 key just before Windows starts to load and select the Safe Mode option from the menu).

Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.exe:
    • Select Option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".
The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process. If it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process. Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
WARNING: Running Option #2 on a non-infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

    1. Download combofix from one of these links:
    Link1
    Link2
    2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
    3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

    Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stallunning. That may cause it to stall

After you have completed the above, please provide:

    next problem,

F8 is only allowing me to choose to boot up with either hard drive or CD ROM, there is no safe mode option,

F2 brings up some sort of menu, but by looking about at the options there are no mention of safe mode either.

    Hi

    Download avz4en.zip here
Unzip it to a folder on your desktop
    Double click on AVZ.exe
Click on the file tab and then click on System recovery
Put a checkmark next to Restore SafeBoot registry keys
    Click on Execute selected operations

    Hi SeaBat200
Im ready for throwing the computer out the window!
    maybe later,

    Lets start with this:

Please disable Teatimer as it may interfere with the fix.

    First:
*Right click Spybot in the System Tray (looks like a calendar with a padlock symbol)
    *Choose Exit Spybot S&D Resident

    Second:
    *Open Spybot S&D
    *Click Mode, check Advanced Mode
*Go To Left Panel, Click Tools, then also in left panel, click Resident
*If your firewall raises a question, say OK
*Uncheck the box labeled Resident Tea-Timer and OK any prompts.
*Use File, Exit to terminate Spybot
*Reboot your machine for the changes to take effect.

    1. Download combofix from one of these links:
    Link1
    Link2
    2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
    3. When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply

Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall

After you have completed the above, please provide:

    hello again,

    thanks for responding.

The stage i am at is,

i have de-activated the SpyBot Tea Timer.

ComboFix isn't running, as it says its outdated, and needs updated? i have tried other sources via google, and all say the same message.

I have tried re-starting into safe mode, and again i am unable to access, or physically see anything which mentions 'safe mode'

Here is however a recent log of HiJackThis

    Thanks,

Looking at my HJT log here are some points id like to add.

items O21: These keep popping up in my SpyBot trying to change entries every 5 minutes!

There is also nsduo.dll and rmv.exe which SpyBot picks up.

    VERY ANNOYING!

    also,

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://g.msn.co.uk/0SEENGB/SAOS01

I think this may be an area of concern

O24 : This link keeps appearing also, and directs a web browser to http://privacyguard........

I think the last two lines of the report are actually out of place.

    Hi
Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop. Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.
    1. Close all applications and windows.
    2. Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
    3. When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
    4. Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and the extra.txt to your post. in your reply

    Hi Peku

    GREAT NEWS!

    I GOT INTO SAFE MODE!!!

When the packard bell screen loads, giving the options of F2 and F8 functions, i hit Esc, and the screen changes to a different style of start up, when that screen booted up i hit F8 and bingo!

I ran Smitfraud Fix and followed your previous proceedure.

Here is what you requested in a previous post.

    smitfraud fix report,
    and a new HJT log,

however, still cannot get combofix to work.

Let me know the next procedure should i need an equivalent to combofix etc...

    Cheers,

    Kev.

Download AVG Anti-Spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop. Note for AVG Free anti-virus users only: this is not the same program that you already have, this is an anti-spyware program.

When the trial period expires it becomes feature-limited freeware but is still worth keeping as a good on-demand scanner.
    • Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double click it to launch the set up program.
    • Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG Anti-Spyware and update the definition files.

    • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
    • Close AVG Anti-Spyware. Do Not run a scan just yet, we will run it in safe mode.
Reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning as it may interfere with the scanning process:
    • Launch AVG Anti-Spyware by double clicking the icon on your desktop.
    • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
AVG will now begin the scanning process. Please be patient as this may take a little time.
    • Once the scan is complete, do the following:
    • If you have any infections you will be prompted. Then select "Apply all actions."
    • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
    • Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left-hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file. This is important).
    • Close AVG Anti-Spyware and reboot your system back into Normal Mode.
