How do I get a HDD set up as Raid 1 to boot under XP

edited November 2007 in Science & Tech
Hi all
I'm trying to salvage 2 perfectly good disk drives without having to reload all the programs I have on them.

Theyare part of a RAID 1 (Mirror) array.

How do I take the raid drive and make the root partition the boot partition and not have to reload the programs on the drive?

I can access everything on each drive when I slave them on another system.
I don't want to have to reload all of the programs as I don't remember which updates or patches were installed.

Win XP Pro
Asus P5GDC Deluxe motherboard w/ onboard ITE Raid
Intel 3.0 Mhz Processor
2 Gb Ram
2x 160 Gb PATA Maxtor drives

is the OS installed on these drives or just random programs?

The OS (WinXP Pro) is on both drives but it was loaded after I had set up the drives as Raid1.

What happens when you boot up with the drives just on the mobo, not part of the raid? That usually works.

    Thanks
That seems to work BUT it hangs even when I select safe mode (never quite gets there).

    Any ideas

If you do a repair install that should fix everything so that it just boots regularly.
