Voice issue in TF2

As some of you have heard, my Voice transmission gets knucked up sometimes in TF2.

Sometimes it happens right away when I start the game, sometimes it takes several hours to start happening, but it seems inevitable that it will happen eventually.

What happens is this:

Suddenly, right after I've said something important, someone else on the server will say something like 'My god! What was that!' or 'CB is possessed again!'. They seem to be hearing something other than my voice when I transmit.

I haven't heard the sound myself, but the descriptions of it are as some-kind of screeching static. The only thing that fixes it is for me to exit the whole game (not just the server) and open the game again.

However, now that I have teamspeak, I know that it's not the mic, nor is it the soundcard, or anything else between my vocal cords and the computer. It's a software problem, and it's isolated to either Steam or TF2 (as I don't have any other Steam games that use voice, I can't check that). See, even while others in TF2 are hearing me screech, my buddies on Teamspeak can hear me just fine.

Also, the issue seems to have increased in frequency since the last TF2 patch.

I've searched other websites and forums dedicated to TF2 and steam, and cannot find any fixes, or even any mentions of this problem anywhere.

Any ideas?

Did you go through the testing of your sound/mic system setup in steam/TF2?
Maybe go into your pc sound settings and turn off mic boost if you have it checked. Do you have soundcard drivers loaded from the manufacturer or the generic windows drivers?
It's got to be a software issue as you say, but it could be that whichever drivers you have, they don't play well with the games sound setup.
You wouldn't believe what it sounds like when it happens!
It's a God awful sound that goes right through to your spine if your sound is up too high.
It reminds me of that 60's movie where the aliens invaded earth and took over humans bodies. Then when they saw someone that wasn't alien like them, they would point at them, screech and chase them down the street.
