Underclocking ?!?!

I'm quite unsure as to whether this fits into this category, but I suppose it is "tweaking" and related to overclocking in an inverse way :rolleyes2 I am trying to reduce the voltage consumption on my graphics card when it is not in use (e.g. sat there folding, as it does most of the time) By underclocking it, do you believe this will reduce the amount of electricity it consumes, or will it simply remain the same ? Thanks in advance for the help ! :smiles:

    BLASPHEMY!!!

But yeah reducing the voltage will reduce power consumption:

But will reducing the core/memory timings result in lower voltage ?

Your 8600 already scales the voltage according to use, but reducing the clockspeed would further reduce consumption.

Thanks for clearing that up Thrax, I just wondered if it always consumed the same voltage/current, and the excess was just dissipated through heat or whatever, obviously not :smiles:
