I think Vundo new trojan variant.

Hi! I have recently made a SpyHunter scan, my pc was slowing down a lot, specially when connecting to the internet. I found the Vundo trojan so I downloaded the Symantec Removal Tool and apparently it was removed. I made a new SpyHunter scan and the trojan was still there.. :rolleyes2
So I dont really know if the tool really removed it, here is my HijackThis log:

    >Hello!

I wouldn't be suprised if you had vundo. Your java version is old 1.5.0_02.

Vundo usually sneaks in if you have an old version of java. So it is always suggested to keep it up to date!

    ( 1 )

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop
    • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
    • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
    • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
    • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
    • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
    • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
    • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

    ( 2 )

Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6/03

Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
Click the "Download" button to the right.
Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
    The page will refresh.

Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.

Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
Then from your desktop double-click on the download to install the newest version.

    Post the results from Vundofix.

    Thanks

And one more file called AvenueMedia on system32 (msxml3a.dll). Dont know if this is some virus...

    Better, but not clean.
Please read this post completely, it may make it easier for you if you copy and paste this post to a new text document or print it for reference later.

You will need run AVG Anti-Spyware and update the definition files.
    • On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
      • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
    • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
    • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
    • Under "Reports"
      • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
      • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
Close AVG Anti-Spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.
    • Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
      • Launch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
      • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
      • AVG Anti-Spyware will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
      • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
      • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
      • Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
      • Close AVG Anti-Spyware and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the AVG Anti-Spyware report scan.

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your desktop.
      • Close all applications and windows.
      • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
      • When the scan is complete, a text file will open - Main.txt
      • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of Main.txt in your thread in the HijackThis Log Help Forum.
      • A folder, C:\Deckard\System Scanner, will also open. In it will be another text file, Extra.txt.
      • Please also copy the contents of Extra.txt to your post as well.
      • Note: some firewalls may warn that sigcheck.exe is trying to access the internet - please ensure that you allow sigcheck.exe permission to do so.
      • What DSS will do:
      • create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
      • clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
      • check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review. DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.

Hi Rahina..you are really rescuing me.
I did all of that but the AVG didnt produced a report, the section 'Reports' was empty after the scan, I went to the AVG folder manually and the folder 'reports' was empty as well...
The scan ended with some cookies though, good news or bad news..you tell.
Here is the maint.txt and im going to attach the extra.txt. Thanks for everything.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

    Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
    • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
    • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
    • Now click on Scan Settings
    • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
      • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
        Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
      • Scan Options:
        Scan Archives
        Scan Mail Bases

        [*]Click OK
[*]Now under select a target to scan:
          Select
        My Computer

[*]This will program will start and scan your system.
[*]The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
[*]Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
        • Now click on the Save as Text button:
[*]Save the file to your desktop.
[*]Copy and paste that information in your next post.

Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the licence, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license accepted, reset to 100%.

If you want, I can put together a list of stuff to remove thats completely optional that should significantly increase the speed you notice on the computer? Just let me know when you post back with your fresh HJT log and Ill figure that up for you.

Hi, thanks for your help. I deleted the zip file but I couldnt delete the Macrogaming folder because of this file: mgAdaptersProxy.dll ,it says its writing protected or used by another program.
So because of this I still dont fix those 3 HJT entries yet, I thought that I shouldnt fix something that its still running on my system.
Anyway, tell me if I should do something before fixing it or ignore the file, erase everything else and fix...
That will be all I think...thanks for the list. :)

You can go ahead and fix those lines.

If you are not able to delete that folder in normal mode you can try to remove it in safemode.
        • Restart your computer
        • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
        • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
        • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
        • Choose your usual account.

Delete that folder and boot back to normal mode.

Let me know how things are running now

Hi! well good news, I could delete that folder finally...
My pc is surprisingly fast, specially on internet browsing. :D
By the other way, I made a new SpyHunter scan and the same 'Trojan.Vundo' registry was located at:
        HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\Current Version\Winlogon\Notify\igfxcui
Should I ignore this? the trojan is really gone and this is only a registry with no importance?
        Thanks for everything!

Ahh! and what about this file also scanned by SpyHunter:
        'AvenueMedia', located at C:\Windows\system32\msxml3a.dll
I made some web research and it could maybe be some kind of malware.

Download CCleaner If you don't want the Yahoo toolbar, be sure to UNcheck that option when installing the software or update.

        Instructions for using CCleaner:
        • Launch CCleaner and under Options > Advanced > UNcheck "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours".
        • A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
        • To protect logon cookies that you wish to retain, under Options > Cookies. Select and using the arrow move those cookies to the "Cookies to keep" column.
        • Then select the items you wish to clean up.
          • In the Windows Tab:

Let us try panda online scanner, it usually finds items that other scanner do not find.

We might find that registry mark there too

Perform an online scan with Internet Explorer with Panda Online scanner

        1. Click Scan your PC & a 'pop up' window shall appear. *ensure that your pop up blocker doesn't block it
        2. Click Scan Now
        3. Enter your e-mail address & click Scan Now ...begins downloading 8 MB Panda's ActiveX controls

Begin the scan by selecting My Computer

        * If it finds any malware, it will offer you a report.
        * Click on see report. Then click Save report

Post the contents of the report in your next reply

*You needn't remain online while it's doing the scan but you have to re-connect after it has finished to see the report.
*Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
        • Disable and Enable System Restore.
If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

You can find instructions on how to enable and reenable system restore here:

        Managing Windows Millenium System Restore
          Windows XP System Restore Guide

Reenable system restore with instructions from tutorial above

[*]Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
[*]From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
[*]Click once on the Security tab
[*]Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
[*]Click once on the Custom Level button.
          1. Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
          2. Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
          3. Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
          4. Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
          5. Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
          6. Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
          7. When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
          8. If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
[*]Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
          • Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:

Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources
          • Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
          • Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

            Understanding and Using Firewalls
          • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
          • Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers
          • Install AVG Anti-Spyware - Install and download AVG Anti-Spyware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using AVG Anti-Spyware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer
          • Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware
          • Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

here are some additional utilities that will enhance your safety
          • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
          • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
          • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
          • Winpatrol <= Download and install the free version of Winpatrol. a tutorial for this product is located here:
Using Winpatrol to protect your computer from malicious software
Let me know if you still receive problems :)

You do not nead to bump anything here.

I can not see anything critical with that registry entry because, there is no vundo infection anymore.

IMO Spyhunter is just a piece of crap :) No offence ..

Ask if there is something on your mind.
